Industrial Style Home Decor - Rustic and Unique Additions!
Although this site is primarily about industrial lighting, home decor can certainly add to the effect you are looking for. Many old world style rustic fixtures are like functional art pieces, and I have found many fixtures online that are an affordable option and awesome to look at.
If like me, you love the old world, rustic and industrial styling, check out the different light fixtures and decor that you can get online. You don't need to spend a lot to achieve the look you are going for. But if you want to add more than light fixtures, then check out the other industrial home decor you can add to your space to give your space than authentic look below. Hopefully you find them just as inspiring as I did!
Clocks make great industrial wall art. If you are going to keep track of time, why not find a clock with that rustic, old world styling? The above two clocks have been created to represent industrial styling. The cage clock looks like something I saw in an old factory I used to work in many years ago! Add an industrial style clock and your wall sconces, and you will definitely have the look you are going for. The best part is these clocks are online and are affordable.
These super authentic looking curtain panels can totally transform your space into the industrial home decor you are looking for. You don't have to use them over windows, you could also cover a wall with them or create a fake window like the first curtain panel. You could get totally creative with these on the wall. It would also be a great way to block out a bad view, or simply hang them on the wall to cover a bad wall and add some authentic photographs to the rest of your space.
Wall art can be very appealing, and if you can find the old gears, chains and rusted bits of metal and get creative yourself this would work too, but you can also shop online for pieces that match the rustic styling you are looking for. I thought these photographic panels of gears really would accent any wall and if you add some really cool industrial lamps, and furniture it would look awesome.
Shelving doesn't have to be plain and IKEA style (not that there is anything wrong with that style but if you are going for rustic and industrial then not so much). The above shelves are just examples of the details you can bring to a room with the right accessories, such as curtains, clocks and shelves. The first set of shelves is really cool and made from old metal plumbing pipes and the second one is metal and reclaimed wood. Both would work well together. Add some old worn books and you are styling!
Adding these bookends to your industrial shelves will take it one step further. Adding accessories can make the difference. Take a look around your room and the things you display and store and see if you can get creative with details to create the space you want.
Adding bits of furniture or tables will add to the rustic decor. You can go to antique stores, garage sales, thrift shops and get creative with what they have to offer, but you can also get authentic looking and simply unique pieces online. Some cost more than others, but hopefully they get you inspired to get creative in your space.
Adding some furniture such as this bistro set styled in the industrial rustic style adds quite well to this space. Take a look at your budget and see if you can add accessories to your industrial lamps, sconces and chandeliers. There is so much you can do if you check online. I personally have found my local decorating stores don't really carry too much in the way of this old world factory style that I like, but love the pieces I have found online. Hope you are getting inspired?
If you can't quite afford some of the bigger pieces or the ideas, you can start with throw pillows. These are under 10 bucks and you can get a few to instantly add your personality on a room. I found this one online. I hope you like some of the ideas I have picked for industrial home decor that will suit your tastes. There are so many cool and authentic products that will transform your room into something magical that will reflect your personality. Start with the accents and keep adding.
How to Make an Industrial Desk
The thing with industrial home decor and styling, you can make things yourself that don't have to be perfectly detailed. In the below video the guy uses old pipes and a top. He does this in his apartment too! If you want to try a bit of DIY check out the video and see if you can source out some old pipe.
Affordable Ideas
The video shows you a quick way to make a desk or table, you can also purchase different styles of legs online. I love the below legs, and all you need to do is find an old top. You could source out old doors as a work surface. If they are not flat you could always add a piece of glass cut to size so you can see the door details through the glass. There are all kinds of options for the work top as long as you have the legs.
There are so many awesome and yet cool ways to create a desk or table using the legs above. As long as you can affix these legs to the wood or top you are set. Pretty quick DIY project. Search out garage sales, barns, or farmers even for old doors that are stored in the barn. If you can find a solid door for sale anywhere, you can always add your own flavour to it by repainting it, distressing it and then add a piece of glass to create a flat surface of if you find a solid piece of wood, refinish it or clean and wax, now you have an industrial desk. If you prefer to purchase one, you can get good deals online as below.
You don't have to totally revamp a room right away to get the look and feel of rustic old world, or factory. You can start with a table lamp or two, then a chandelier or replace the present ceiling light. Just replacing lighting can make a huge impact on the space. Lighting fixtures should be something you enjoy looking at whether they are switched on or off, not just utilitarian. I call them functional art pieces especially if they are unique.
Shopping online with Amazon is where I found many of the the ideas for my own space, and in fact it was cheaper. My local lighting stores and home decor outlets were leaning more to the modern, clean lines look and occasional country flare, so there wasn't much in the water pipe lamps, or rustic desks. I like everything to have its own unique flair, I don't need matching anything!
So hopefully I have inspired you to change your place if this is the look you love. It doesn't have to cost the moon. You can even get throw pillows for under 10 bucks. Start with a few basic items and then keep adding. The quickest way to change a wall is with curtain panels, or faux wallpaper or industrial wall art, either buy it or make yourself.
