I absolutely love the look of industrial/warehouse/rustic. It is totally different from the standard fixtures and lamps you would buy at your local decorating, lighting or home improvement store. I have picked the ones below I love, but....
Light fixtures and lamps tend to be overlooked as an important part of the room. Many people will decorate with care but leave the builders fixtures on the ceiling or get ones that will fade into the background when not in use. I look at light fixtures and lamps as part of the room, and in many cases they can become the main focus front and center especially if they are a little different from the norm.
You can change the look of a room quickly with the addition of a floor lamp that stands out as an art piece but also totally functional when it comes to lighting. If you rent your space using floor lamps is a great way to add the industrial styling without any installation and some of the ones I have found online are truly authentic looking, check them out below.
From the Franklin Iron Works with a warm rust finish. This fixture can take up to a 150 watt bulb for maximum room lighting. You could have a couple of these in the room to add to your industrial styling.
This is a very simplistic style and yet makes a statement. This one includes the bulb so you are set to go. Designed by Franklin Iron Works. Dark oiled rubbed bronze finish with gold trim finish. On/off inline switch. The caged bulb really adds the part.
The rust finish on this lamp really adds to the vintage industrial look. There is a step on/off switch and it includes 3 x 60 watt edison bulbs, so you are set to go. The metal cages really add to the authentic look and it looks great here against the exposed brick wall.
This is one of my favorites! The lamp is adjustable up and down motion with the pulley arm, and it is so authentic looking with the caged bulb. It is made in the USA and has a heavy base to keep the lamp safe, and authentic looking twisted cord and metal. This is a functional piece of art for your room!
Cage Style Lamp has 3 pull chains so you can turn each edison style bulb (included) on or off depending on how much light you need. The cage around the bulbs really adds to the rustic look and this is a tall one at 65 inches. Would look great in any room.
If you want the warehouse or rustic feel but still like the idea of a lamp shade, this one has the best of both worlds. Mid century modern style floor lamp made of metal with a burlap drum style shade. Very simply lines and would look great in any room.
Decorating in the industrial style is easier than you think and more affordable. You could go routing around estate sales, antique stores, and garage sales for authentic old fixtures, but be prepared to have them rewired. My sister is an electrician and while working for her I saw many people do this. It can be done but can get expensive.
After hunting through traditional lighting stores, home improvement stores and other places I was frustrated to see that they sold mostly traditional styles or the type you simply faded into the background with pot lights, or ceiling lights. I love to see a bit more character, and there is no reason that lamps have to be hidden. IF the rest of your room has a rustic feel, then adding one of these vintage industrial floor lamps will take it to the next step and will be noticed.
If you rent your space and can't install different chandeliers or pendant lights, then try using industrial floor lamps. They serve a dual purpose, by not only lighting your room whether for reading or just the ambiance, but they are conversation pieces in themselves, especially with the Edison bulbs.
Functional Pieces of Artwork
I picked a few above that I thought were really cool, and some are made by hand in the USA using as much authentic parts as possible, even when it comes to the plug and wire. But these are safer alternatives to digging through old junk sales. I have found online to be a great alternative to traditional lighting stores. You can click any one of the pictures or links above to find out more about that piece. Have fun!
I think every piece in the room should say something including lamps. Yes we need the lighting for the evening, but why does it have to be plain? Get something a little different, the right piece for your room acts like a piece of artwork, it gets noticed!
